A successful turnaround requires more than just expertise in execution. It starts with thorough preparation, technical insight, and the ability to manage risks. At Van der Ende Valve Services, we combine this with years of experience in asset management and delivering total solutions. This ensures that even the most complex maintenance shutdowns run smoothly and safely.
Everything Under One Roof
During a recent turnaround for a major client in the (petro)chemical industry, we managed the entire process: from gathering all the necessary information to revising and assembling new valves. Each of the hundreds of valves, safety devices, and shut-off valves was tested, coated, and provided with a complete file of certificates. We even handled the transportation ourselves. This way, parts could be continuously revised in batches and delivered back on time.
"The bulk of the work lies in preparation," says Vincent, Manager of Projects & Business Development at Van der Ende Valve Services. "By covering all the risks upfront, maximum efficiency can be achieved during execution. That’s where we make the difference."
Asset Management as a Foundation
Many companies do not have complete or up-to-date data on their valves. Sometimes, valves are decades old and lack crucial information. We approach this systematically with a valve passport: a document containing all relevant technical details. This makes future maintenance shutdowns faster, more efficient, and more reliable.
We also honestly assess whether revision is still worthwhile. "You wouldn’t keep taking an old car to the garage forever. Sometimes replacing it is simply the best option—both technically and financially," Vincent adds.
Standardizing for the Long Term
We also add extra value by standardizing valves. Where possible, we use the same types and models. This makes management more straightforward, maintenance more predictable, and parts more readily available.
Forward thinking is built into our system. For example, during the previous shutdown in 2021, we decided that certain safety devices would need to be replaced in 2025. The parts could be ordered well in advance, preventing unnecessary downtime.
Together for a Reliable Process
Vincent has been with Van der Ende Valve Services for nearly 25 years and knows the client inside out. "By now, we can read and write with each other. That creates opportunities to come up with something new every time to add extra value. Give me the complex, long-term work—that’s what I enjoy the most."
In short, for us, a turnaround is not just about executing tasks but creating a strong, reliable foundation for the future. Vincent concludes, "For me, a project is successful if we’ve made the client’s process even more reliable."
